Setting Up Your PureWick™ Urine Collection System

The PureWick™ System offers a simple and efficient setup process. Follow our step-by-step guide below to properly assemble your system at home.

Assembly Instructions:

Before beginning, please verify that you have all the necessary components:

  1. Ensure the power switch is turned OFF. Plug the power cord into the device outlet and then into an A/C power outlet.
  2. Place the collection canister in the base and press down firmly on the lid to ensure it is sealed.
    Optional: If using the privacy cover, slip it onto the canister before placing the canister into the base.
  3. Attach the pump tubing (short tube) to the connector port on the PureWick™ Urine Collection System and the collection canister lid.
  4. Attach the elbow connector to the collector tubing (long tube) and connect it to the connector port on the collection canister lid.
  5. Connect the other end of the collector tubing (long tube) to a PureWick™ External Catheter.

Using Your PureWick™ Urine Collection System

Follow these steps to properly use your PureWick™ System.
  1. System Setup
    Refer to our “Assembly Instructions” guide above for assembly instructions.
  2. Positioning the PureWick™ Female External Catheter
    a. Preparation: Perform thorough perineal care. Assess skin condition in the area.
    b. Gently separate the legs, gluteal muscles, and labia. Use the pubic bone as an anatomical reference point.
    c. Position the catheter with the soft gauze side facing the patient.
    d. Align the distal end with the gluteal cleft.
    e. Carefully tuck the soft gauze side between the separated gluteal muscles and labia.
  3. Removal
    a. Removal Process: Fully separate the legs, gluteal muscles, and labia.
    b. Maintain suction while removing the catheter.
    c. Gently pull the catheter directly outward to avoid potential skin injury.
  4. Replacement Schedule:
    Replace the catheter every 8 to 12 hours, or sooner if soiled. Before placing a new catheter, assess skin condition and perform perineal care.

Important Notes:

  • The PureWick™ Female External Catheter is designed for single use only.
  • Do not attempt to wash, sanitize, or reuse the catheter, as this may increase infection risk and compromise the device’s integrity.
  • Reusing the catheter could lead to device failure and potential patient injury.
